For Gravy:
- 1 pound ground pork sausage
- 4 ½ cups milk
- ½ cup flour
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
For Biscuits:
- 2 7.5 ounce cans refrigerator biscuits or homemade drop biscuit dough
- Preheat Oven: Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 13 x 9 inch glass pan with oil cooking spray.
- Brown Sausage: In a medium pot, brown the ground pork sausage. Transfer the cooked sausage to the prepared baking dish and blot out excess grease.
- Prepare Gravy: In the same pot, add butter to the sausage drippings and melt over medium heat. Stir in flour, salt, and peppers to create a roux. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the roux browns slightly.
- Cook Gravy: Gradually add milk to the roux, whisking until smooth. Cook on medium-low heat, stirring frequently until the gravy thickens. This will take several minutes. Pour the gravy over the sausage in the baking pan.
- Prepare Biscuits: Cut the refrigerator biscuits into fourths or use homemade biscuit dough divided into small portions. Place the biscuit pieces on top of the gravy in the baking dish.
- Bake: Bake the casserole for 25-30 minutes until the biscuits are golden brown.
- Serve: Serve the Biscuits and Gravy Casserole warm and enjoy!
