Creamy 5-Minute Oat Milk is a quick and easy homemade oat milk recipe that yields a smooth, dairy-free alternative perfect for drinking, cooking, or adding to your favorite beverages. Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats (90 g)
  • 4 cups cold water (700 mL)
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Sweeteners and Flavors

  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup, or
  • 1 Medjool date, or
  • 1 Tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate flavor)
  • ½ cup mixed berries (for berry flavor)

Instructions

  1. Blend: Add 1 cup rolled oats and 4 cups cold water to a blender. Blitz just until the oats are broken down, about 30 seconds. Be careful not to over-blend, as this can release excess oat starches making the milk slimy.
  2. First Strain: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve set over a bowl or pitcher. Avoid pressing the pulp to prevent sliminess. Discard the pulp.
  3. Second Strain (Optional): For an extra smooth texture, pour the strained milk through a cheesecloth or thin dish towel laid inside a colander, or use a nut milk bag if available. Let the milk drain naturally without squeezing. Discard the remaining pulp.
  4. Adjust and Flavor: Add a pinch of salt to the strained oat milk. Blend in your choice of sweeteners like maple syrup, date, or brown sugar, or flavors like vanilla extract, cocoa powder, or berries. If the milk is thicker than desired, add up to 1 cup more water and stir or blend gently.
  5. Serve: Chill the oat milk in the refrigerator and serve cold for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Do not over-blend the oats to avoid slimy texture.
  • Do not press or squeeze the oat pulp during straining to maintain smoothness.
  • Use cold water to keep the milk fresh and avoid activating excess starch.
  • Customize the milk with natural sweeteners or flavors to suit your preference.
  • Store oat milk refrigerated and consume within 3-4 days for optimal freshness.
