Base Mixture
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 16 oz powdered sugar
Flavors & Coating
- 4 tablespoons dry Jello powder, assorted flavors (1 tablespoon per flavor)
- Granulated sugar, for rolling
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside so it’s ready once the candy melts are shaped.
- Make Cream Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar. Beat until fully combined and smooth. Pause halfway to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl ensuring all sugar is evenly incorporated.
- Divide Mixture: Split the combined mixture evenly into four small bowls (or as many bowls as the number of Jello flavors you’re using).
- Add Jello Powder: To each bowl, add 1 tablespoon of dry Jello powder. Mix thoroughly until the mixture takes on the color and flavor evenly. The texture will be soft and slightly sticky.
- Shape and Coat: Scoop about 1 tablespoon portions of the mixture. Drop each portion directly into a bowl of granulated sugar to lightly coat it. Once it is no longer sticky, shape each portion into a ball.
- Form Indentation: Place each coated ball onto the prepared baking sheet. Using your thumb, gently press into the center of each ball to create a small indentation, mimicking a soft candy melt shape.
- Set and Store: Continue shaping and coating the remaining mixture. Let the candy melts sit at room temperature for a short period to firm slightly before serving. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Ensure cream cheese is softened for easier mixing and smooth texture.
- The candy melts are best eaten fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- Use different Jello powder flavors to create a colorful variety.
- If mixture is too sticky to handle, refrigerate briefly to firm up before shaping.
- Granulated sugar coating helps prevent stickiness and adds a slight crunch.
