Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Aiya Culinary Grade Matcha powder
  • Sanding sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is properly heated before baking the cookies.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat softened butter, white sugar, and salt on medium speed for about 3 minutes until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  3. Add Vanilla and Egg: Reduce mixer speed and add vanilla extract and egg, then continue to beat for one more minute until fully incorporated.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and matcha powder to blend evenly.
  5. Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Lower the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour and matcha mixture into the wet ingredients. Mix until the dough thickens and all ingredients are combined thoroughly.
  6. Prepare Baking Trays: Line two baking trays with parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking during baking.
  7. Pipe the Dough: Fit a piping bag with a star or ribbed tip. Fill the bag with dough and pipe small heart shapes or circles onto the prepared trays. Optionally, sprinkle sanding sugar on top for a decorative sparkle.
  8. Bake Cookies: Bake one tray at a time in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are just turning golden and the cookies are set.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely on the trays before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is softened to room temperature for easier creaming and better texture in cookies.
  • If you don’t have Aiya Culinary Grade Matcha, other culinary-grade matcha powders will work as well.
  • Using a piping bag and decorative tip creates elegant, uniform cookie shapes; alternatively, you can scoop dough with a spoon if needed.
  • Cookies should not brown too much; baking time may vary slightly based on your oven, so keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking.
  • Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days for maximum freshness.
