A hearty and creamy Hamburger Stroganoff made with tender ground beef, egg noodles, and a rich sour cream sauce seasoned with garlic and onion powder. This comforting dish is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner that satisfies the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 6 ounces Egg Noodles

Beef

  • 1 pound Ground Beef

Sauce

  • ¼ cup Butter
  • ¼ cup Flour
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 ¼ cup Milk
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ cup Sour Cream

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles: Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to the package directions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
  2. Brown the beef: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon until fully browned and no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat, then transfer the beef to a plate and set aside.
  3. Make the roux: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to form a roux, which will thicken the sauce.
  4. Add beef broth: Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue whisking and cooking until the sauce begins to thicken, about 3–4 minutes.
  5. Incorporate milk: Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring over medium heat until the sauce thickens again and is smooth and creamy, around 5–7 minutes.
  6. Season the sauce: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt, ensuring the seasonings are evenly combined throughout the sauce.
  7. Combine noodles and beef: Lower the heat to low. Add the cooked egg noodles and browned ground beef back into the skillet, stirring gently until everything is well combined and heated through.
  8. Finish with sour cream: Gently stir in the sour cream until fully incorporated, adding a creamy and tangy richness to the dish.
  9. Serve: Serve the Hamburger Stroganoff hot, ideally with your favorite vegetable side or a slice of garlic toast to complete the meal.

Notes

  • Drain excess fat from the browned beef to prevent the sauce from becoming greasy.
  • Use full-fat sour cream for the creamiest texture and best flavor.
  • Egg noodles can be substituted with other pasta like fettuccine or pappardelle if preferred.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially the salt and pepper.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stove or microwave, adding a splash of milk if the sauce thickens too much.
