For the crust:

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup cold butter

For the top layer:

  • ⅔ cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup + 1 tbsp flour
  • 4 large or extra-large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1½ cups corn syrup
  • 2 cups roughly chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Preheat oven to 350°F for aluminum bake ware and 325°F for glass bake ware. Mix 1¾ cups flour and ½ cup sugar. Rub in ¾ cup cold butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Press firmly into a lined and greased 9×13 baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes.
  2. Make the topping: While the crust is baking, mix brown sugar, flour, eggs, vanilla, salt, corn syrup, and pecans. Pour over the hot crust.
  3. Bake: Return to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, until the top is set. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
